Our
Story

My name is James Suther and I have worked in many industries prior to focusing on the health and wellness of others. Come with me as I take you on a journey that has helped me develop and grow as a person, to see how life's many challenges can change the way you look at things and the perception we have of how things should be.

What has Inspired you ?

When I was a child, I was taken to see Star Wars: Episode 4 A New Hope.  This was the biggest inspiration and life changing experience I have ever had.  Not only was I a child going to the movies which was magic in its own right , but to see a movie that is so awesome, it had action, mystery , intrigue, laughter and imagination and my heart was racing and still is to this day when ever I watch this movie or any part of the Star Wars Universe.

I would think of me as a Jedi, using the force to help people and channel the ways of the force through me to others, that was my imagination as a child. This concept has never left me, it has enthused me to be fascinated with Space Exploration and to inspire the next generation, "that all is possible and nothing is impossible."

Where have you worked?

I have a good academic life and I have been a Head of Production and IT, basketball coach, Teacher, Lecturer, , Trainer, Actor, carer... These are just a few of the roles and positions I have held but each role in my working life has always led me to be helping people  of all ages and inspiring them to look at the world in a new way.

In my working life I have been made redundant several times, I always seem to pick myself up start at the bottom and work my way up, this is the resilience for believing in myself, my strength to build and go with the flow, is something I feel once I am committed to a challenge or idea I will stay on the path.

Why did Soothing Hands 2020 start ?

During the COVID - Pandemic, I trained and qualified as a Massage therapist, this was inspired by a passing comment by my family who said " you should give massage therapy a go, as a way to help people." So I took them at their word and signed up to a Swedish Massage course with the Central School of Massage based in Leamington Spa.

I enjoyed the Swedish massage course, I  signed up for the  next course which was Table Thai Stretch Massage, again through the Central School of Massage.  My heart was pounding with the excitement and discovering a new world of being able to help people by having a positive impact on their well being.

This was the dawn of Soothing Hands 2020 in October 2020 I was offering mobile massage therapy to clients in the Coventry and Warwickshire area.  It was slow to begin with but exciting too and I had bought all the new equipment as well.

I was so excited that I had signed up for another technique with the central school of Massage which was the Deep Tissue Massage.  This was another string to my bow, which allowed me to work with deeper pressure to help relieve peoples pain in their head, neck back and shoulders.

After I had passed this course in March 2021, I  had made contact with the Amethyst Training Centre in Coventry and found that I could have a base for my clinic Soothing Hands 2020.

Disaster struck as my main Job was teaching at a secondary school,  I was coaching a basketball session and tore my Achilles tendon, this meant I could not work or drive for several months, once I had recovered and was getting back to my feet I started to trade again at the Amethyst Training Centre, Coventry  practicing there and offering mobile services from October 2021 only to be told at the end of November 2021 that due to medical reasons  I was advised not to drive.

This was hard for me, and had to relocate to Kenilworth to be closer to the school, forces were pulling me in a new direction to embark on a new adventure.

I signed a deal to work on Saturday afternoons at Neal's Yard remedies in Leamington spa practicing as Soothing Hands 2020 in there therapy rooms.

I was using the bus to get from home to work and the business to rebuild my client base was slow, but gained momentum each month I got one then two, three and four new clients.

As I developed a client base the massage I provided evolved as well as I was tailoring the massage to suit the clients needs not just one style one fix, I was blending the different styles together to give an ultimate massage experience which clients are loving and have helped people with differing ailments from easing the pain of those with rheumatoid arthritis , Lupus, Chron's disease , Sciatic issues, Head neck and shoulder difficulties, sleep , anxiety, depression, athletes training hard , improved stretched muscles to reduce the affects of DOMS and many more, the feedback has been amazing and very supportive, "THANK YOU".

The Business started to thrive and come June 2022 I was allowed to drive again which was awesome and the mobile side of the business could continue.

How did Soothing Hands 2020 evolve into Suther Therapy ?

We found that there was something else that could be included this is where the Lymphatic Integrated Massage style was incorporated and learned through the summer of 2022.

This was the birth of the Suther Therapy technique.

Now starts a new chapter of me going full-time focusing on the business after leaving teaching at Easter 2023.

We have expanded and opened a new clinic within Acu - Remedy  in Twickenham, London we are there every Thursday from 1st December 2022. I am taking bookings by appointment for the Twickenham clinic
